Ex-Basic Cable Pseudo Celebrity

Random guy in barbershop's favorite show. Ever

So Bryan and I are at the barbershop waiting our turn, when a big dude with a fresh crew cut walks up and asks me if I’m “that Greg Mollin” from Huntington Street TV.  I reluctantly say yes and he starts gushing about what a huge fan he is and begins listing the sketches we did, naming all the characters and basically causing a little scene in the busy shop.  He shakes my hand about four times and I thank him for watching our stupid show (which hasn’t been on since around 2000) and silently hope he’ll just leave.

Now everyone is looking at me and I’m feeling as if I’m on some horrible hidden camera show.  He says he moved to Arkansas and still watches the shows he taped when we did that thing ten or so years ago.  He asks to take my picture and says how his wife is never going to believe he met me.  It was both flattering and completely insane.

The best part was when he told me how he had just met Henry Winkler (yes, The Fonz) and how it was nothing compared to meeting me.  At that point, I told him he needs to get a life and how ashamed of himself he should be.

After he left, I ended up having to explain the whole TV show thing to the eight or nine people in the barbershop.  My five-year old son–being his usual awesome self–doesn’t even ask.

Ah, the life of the ex-basic cable pseudo celebrity.

Take that, Henry Winkler.

Note:  I want to make it clear that I am very flattered that anyone ever watched our show.  That someone liked it enough to remember my name and all about it so many years later is beyond cool.  BTW, I’m certain he got the humor in my remarks about getting a life and whatnot.  Even I’m not that big of an ass.
